SET SAIL TO THE ELEVENTH ANNUAL “PORTS OF CALL” SYMPHONY BALL!
Symphony Ball inspires Honolulu to dance the night away with the magic of symphonic music!
Honolulu – In the tradition of the grand society balls of Europe and the Americas, “Ports of Call” – the Eleventh Annual Symphony Ball, will inspire music lovers to dance the night away on Saturday, May 17th, 2008 in the Kalakaua Ballroom of the Hawaii Convention Center. “Ports of Call” celebrates the critically-acclaimed Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and the cultures of illustrious ports around the world. The Symphony Ball is generously chaired by valued Symphony supporters Collin M. (Marty) Fritz and Susyn Fritz.
The black-tie, evening gown and formal ethnic attire gala kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with the “Marketplaces of the World” silent auction, followed by a sumptuous gourmet dinner and dancing to the music of the orchestra. Each exotic marketplace is inspired by the charm and splendor of the world’s most alluring settings, such as Europe, Asia, the Americas and Polynesia. Marketplaces feature fantasy travel packages and keepsakes including jewelry, rare books, wine & spirits, gastronomy, fashion, china & crystal, fine art and music. Distinctive “Toast the Symphony” cocktails and wines are featured in each picturesque port of call.
Honolulu Symphony Principal Pops Conductor Maestro Matt Catingub will “strike the right note” with Hawaii‘;s wonderful Honolulu Symphony Orchestra for the evening’s entertainment. Ballroom dancing, including such favorites as the waltz, jive, quickstep, cha cha, west coast swing and rumba will inspire everyone on the dance floor.
One of Honolulu’s most anticipated social events, the Symphony Ball welcomes more than 700 Symphony supporters and community leaders each year. Since 1998, this fundraiser for the Symphony’s music education and community outreach initiatives has raised more than $3.5 million for vital programs such as education concerts for children and teenagers, performances in classrooms, and the Hawaii Youth Concerto Competition. By the end of the 2007-2008 season, the Honolulu Symphony education and community outreach programs will have touched the lives of approximately 20,000 Hawaii youth through more than 190 programs in schools on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii.
“Ports of Call” individual reservations begin at $300 per person (a portion of the ticket price is tax-deductible). Tables of 10 are available starting at $3,000. “Ports of Call” attendees will enjoy free valet parking.
