Youth Concerts

Designed for preschool through sixth grade students, Honolulu Symphony Youth Concerts present basic music concepts in a fun and informative way. The Honolulu Symphony is offering 2008-09 Youth Concerts for:
Meet the Whole Family!
Pre-k & Kindergarten
This interactive small-ensemble concert will create great excitement for tiny tots as they learn about the different families of orchestral instruments and watch them perform individually and in small groups. A full-screen projection by an onstage roving camera will bring the experience closer than ever to the children as they watch and hear the musicians play beautiful music selected specifically for their age group.Student admission to the concert is $2. All chaperones are free. All programs subject to change.
America: My Country, My Music
Grades 1 through 6
In 2008-09, 1st through 6th grade students will learn about melody and harmony through “America: My Country, My Music”, this year’s program sponsored in part by the LinkUP! program at Weill Music Institute of Carnegie Hall. This exciting program includes the music of Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, and John Williams, as well as selections from the 50th state: Hawai‘i Pono‘i and a medley of two traditional Hawaiian melodies, “Pupu Hinuhinu” and “Kahuli Aku”. Teachers are encouraged to prepare their students to sing along with the Honolulu Symphony.Supporting classroom materials, including worksheets and a CD of the selections to be played at the concert, are available for teachers who have registered. Professional Development for Teachers is available to help teachers prepare their students for the Youth Concert.
