In-School Ensembles

The In–School Ensembles program is an opportunity for students to meet and hear Honolulu Symphony musicians up close in the familiar atmosphere of their own school. Performed by duos, trios, quartets and quintets of Honolulu Symphony musicians playing string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments, the performances are designed to complement the concert hall experience of the Youth Concerts. Some of our In–School Ensembles give value to teachers and students by also addressing arts benchmarks and/or GLOs in their presentations.

For groups of 25-50 students, the In–School Ensembles program is a service of the Honolulu Symphony and there is no charge for participating schools.

Reservation Notes

Although some ensembles can accommodate large groups, we like to keep the audiences for these performances under 100. This gives children the opportunity to get a closer look at the musicians and their instruments and ask more questions. Please indicate the number of attendees per category, per grade so that we may accommodate you to the best of our ability.

  • There is no fee for an ensemble performance, however ensembles can only go to one school per day therefore,
    • Please schedule at least two performances with a 15 minute break in between. (Rural Oahu schools may not be able to schedule more than two performances due to travel time.)
    • Performances should be in the same location.
  • Please make sure the location for the performance is reasonably accessible from the parking area (some instruments are very large).
