Honolulu Symphony Education Program Offers Teacher Training for Spring Term
Workshops for Youth Concert and In-School Ensemble Teachers on O‘ahu
Honolulu – Come play energizing music games and learn music-teaching skills to take back into the classroom! With the arts disappearing from many school curriculums, the Honolulu Symphony plays a critical role in supporting educators who want to bring the beauty of music into their students’ lives. The Symphony's Professional Development program provides teachers with tools to enhance their students’ Honolulu Symphony experience.
These 2-hour workshops introduce the Honolulu Symphony's spring Youth Education curriculum for Youth Concerts and In-School Ensembles; provide methods and materials by which teachers can help prepare their students for the Honolulu Symphony experience; and suggest ways in which teachers can incorporate music in to their broader curriculum and positively impact General Learner Outcomes (GLOs). Participating teachers will receive 2 free tickets to an upcoming 2008–09 Honolulu Symphony concert.
Norma F. Chun - Education Specialist
Norma F. Chun has more than 30 years experience teaching music in Hawai'i schools. Chun is a Teaching Artist with the Hawai'i Arts Alliance/State Foundation/Department of Education (DOE), a music contributor to the DOE “An Arts Toolkit,” and is certified in Orff Schulwerk, Level II (Orff is a process of teaching music). She holds an undergraduate degree in Music Education from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa.
Parents and chaperones: when you buy a ticket for a student, you are eligible to purchase up to two tickets at the same $10 rate for your use at the same concert. Please call the Symphony Box Office at (808) 792-2000 for more information.
